I don’t know if any of you follow the IG account Betches, but you should. They posted this hilarious meme recently that says, “Ever just accidentally black out every weekend?” I have gotten better at not doing this every weekend, but when my friends and I plan to go out partying – we party.
Not only are hangovers the worst because of how they make you feel, but they can really take a toll on your physical appearance as well over time. Since Alcohol is hepatotoxic, it is a toxin to the cells that detoxify your body and can seriously dehydrate the skin, making it less plump and fresh in the morning.
I’m going to be realistic with myself and say that sadly this has not deterred me from knocking back one too many drinks from time to time. So, for those instances in which I get a little carried away, I like to use the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate ($46).
I received this little miracle in a gift bag at the end of an event a few years ago and have been hooked ever since. It is a ”replenishing nighttime facial oil with distilled botanicals that visibly restores the appearance of skin by morning.” I quote the description on the website because it literally does just that – after washing your face at night just put on a few drops of this before bed and let the magic happen. Since our skin ultimately repairs itself at night, this is the preferred time for usage but there have been instances in which I put it on the next morning for some daytime restoration – and it still does the trick.
Also, to be very honest with you, I don’t wash my face every night. I know, how am I blogging about beauty when I sometimes skip this very basic and very important step. Well, I don’t dismiss it completely; I am just too lazy sometimes and prefer to simply use a makeup remover wipe instead. It’s quick and gets rid of at least surface level dirt, especially when you’re stumbling in after a night out. Some of favs are:
Lastly, this goes without saying but I drink tons of water. I sometimes joke that I literally only drink water and then cocktails on the weekend. It has been a big help in preventing or lessening hangovers, and it truly makes my skin look and feel super healthy.
Do you have any hangover beauty tricks of your own?
