I actually bought the domain for this site back in July of 2015. While on my way to a nail appointment, a woman approached me and asked about the makeup I was wearing, to which I gave her the lowdown on all of my favorite products and brands. We began discussing skincare routines and I was so excited that I almost missed my train stop. She said she was surprised that I didn’t work in the beauty and cosmetics industry since I seemed so passionate about it.
I’m not sure why but that particular experience really stuck with me, which is odd because it wasn’t the first time something like that has happened. Not to mention, my friends and I are constantly discussing beauty tips/preferences.
Although I am no expert, the idea of being able to share my experiences with others and hopefully help in their day-to-day beauty routine has always appealed to me. Yet, after buying the domain I went back and forth about whether or not I really should go through with this – would anyone read it? Would anyone actually take me seriously? These thoughts went through my mind (and quite frankly still do) and caused me to procrastinate on something I felt passionate about.
Since then I had been trying to think of other things I might be better suited at—but this beauty blog kept making its way back to the forefront. One night I just decided to take a leap of faith and go through with it.
Ironically, after making my decision to seriously pursue a beauty blog, an article was published on one of my favorite websites, Refinery29, about Black women and the cosmetics industry.
Black women, in particular, spend an estimated $7.5 billion annually on beauty products, shelling out 80% more on cosmetics and twice as much on skin care as their non-Black counterparts. Yet, they’ve been grossly underserved by the cosmetics industry throughout history.
This information resonated with me and pretty much sealed the deal.
So, here I am! I hope that each time you visit AishaBeau.com you leave with something that you didn’t know before, or that inspires you to take a risk in your daily beauty routine.
Enjoy!
