I am the first to admit, makeup is too damn expensive. Not that, that stops me from buying MAC or brands at Sephora, but it does add up. Believe it or not I really feel some drugstore brands are on par with their more expensive counterparts in terms of quality, and after all, buying products at the drugstore is where it all started for me at the beginning of college. Here are some favorites that are currently in my makeup bag.
Now that I have bangs I use this a little less often, because my lashes are usually covered, but I absolutely love Maybelline’s Volum’ Express: The Colossal Washable Mascara in Glam Black ($6.99). Mascara (or good fake lashes) instantly brightens the face and I love this one in particular because it doesn’t melt off during the day and lengthens my lashes without crazy clumping.
I took a break from eyeliner for a while because I wanted a more fresh faced look, but with my bangs I’m going for something slightly more edgy so I brought it back into my routine. Revlon’s ColorStay Eyeliner Pencil in Black ($8.99) is something I have literally been using it for YEARS. It glides on smoothly with a deep dark finish and doesn’t smudge or fade throughout the day leaving you with raccoon eyes.
As you know, I love a good blush. When I’m not rocking those more expensive brands I almost always have on CoverGirl’s Classic Color Blush in Iced Plum ($6.14). The one I have now has lasted me for who knows how long. When I started using it I used a larger blush brush to apply, but one day I lost my brush and resorted to using the one in the case – which I rarely do. Surprisingly, it went on in a way that I really liked. The color was slightly more condensed but it still had a soft yet noticeable finish.
Before I put on any of my lip colors, I need to make sure my lips are completely hydrated and moisturized. I’ve tried a few different lip balm brands and most recently have been using and liking Nivea’s Mint and Minerals Lip Care Balm ($2.39). It definitely takes a few applications throughout the day if that’s all I’m using, but it holds in moisture really well when I add lipstick on top.
