As you all know, I love experimenting with lip colors and textures–the bolder, the better. This time around I decided to take a new risk and venture off into the world of black lipstick. I know, super gothic and a little extreme, but I had to try it for myself. Also, I get that it’s the middle of summer, so I wouldn’t advise rocking it during the day, but it actually does give a very chic nighttime look.
The black lipstick I chose is from one of my go-to brand’s Black | Up – in the RGE M30 ($23.00) shade. The lipstick has a satin finish, which is perfect for this type of pigmentation – I think if you’re going to wear a black lipstick there should be a slight sheen to it.
Black lipstick first made an appearance back in the 4000 B.C. time period in ancient Egypt. I have a huge fascination with women in Egypt during this time period, because from what I’ve seen on artifacts, their makeup and hairstyles slayed! Makeup surprisingly is something that the ancient Egyptians took very seriously and was used as a symbol of status – men were even known to apply makeup as a daily ritual. They had their own color palettes and experimented with everything from lipstick to Eyeshadow and henna tattoos. So there’s no wonder it looks so great on darker skin tones – Black women started it.
I’ve worn this lipstick out in the evening on a few occasions and haven’t been disappointed – the color lasted through the night and didn’t cake or flake off of my lips. I’m thinking you should try to take a leap of faith and get yourself a tube – here are some other black lipsticks worth trying!
