In the winter it is really difficult to achieve “glowing” or refreshed looking skin when the climate is literally sucking all moisture from it. Recently, however, I’ve received a number of compliments on how “fresh” and “flawless” my skin has looked and I really owe it to Desert Essence. I have kept my skincare routine very simple this winter, with my main focus being on retaining moisture.
For the most part, I use one facial moisturizer for both day and night, occasionally switching it up when I’d get a new night cream, but more than likely I revert back to using just one. Why? No special reason outside of the fact that I get lazy sometimes, but it honestly is so much better to use specific products at certain times of the day. I became a believer after receiving products from the Desert Essence Pure Oils-Infused Facial Skin Care line. Since I’m all about makeup being a choice, not a requirement, upping the ante in my skincare routine this year has been a top priority of mine. So, I decided to test drive a few products from the line and see exactly how they’d benefit me.
The Desert Essence Pure Oils-Infused Facial Skin Care line is designed to replenish and rejuvenate skin, to enhance it’s natural radiance. The line includes a Creamy Oil Cleanser, Restorative Face Oil, Balancing Face Oil and Revitalizing Oil Moisturizer. I’m pretty set with my cleanser, so I stuck to just using the face oils and moisturizer.
Though I have oily skin naturally, I love using moisturizers with oil in them because believe it or not it helps to regulate excess oil. I’ve mentioned this before, but when you deprive your skin of moisture it produces excess amounts of oil to do the job itself, thus a shiny face is the result! So, when I use oil based moisturizers it keeps that oiliness at a nice balance — and leaves my face “dewy” instead. With that said, I rotate between the Restorative Facial Oil ($18) and Balancing Facial Oil ($18) at night since this is when skin and your entire body does most of it’s repairing. Both are meant to infuse and boost your skin. The Restorative Face Oil replenishes and moisturizes, while the Balancing Face Oil helps balance skin’s dry and oily areas, leaving it more supple and radiant.
In the morning, before applying makeup I use the Revitalizing Oils Moisturizer ($17),l. It is super light weight and gives my skin the right amount of antioxidants and fatty acids it needs to produce that “glow” throughout the day. I’d highly recommend getting at least one of the facial oils and the moisturizer — my skin has never looked better in the winter, trust me.
I also love a brand that gives back. Desert Essence will contribute 1% of gross sales on the Restorative Face Oil and Balancing Face Oil to help support Plan International USA’s Because I Am A Girl Initiative. Since 2012, Plan International USA’s Because I Am A Girl has worked to directly improve the lives of girls in the world’s poorest countries. Desert Essence is available on its website and at your nearest Whole Foods. Why not give back to your skin, and others while doing so?
