A few weeks ago I was browsing through one of my favorite websites, Refinery29 and one of their beauty editors mentioned the importance of Vitamin C. This piqued my interest since I hadn’t previously heard many people talk about Vitamin C. Especially since everyone has this huge Retinol obsession right now, so I was excited to hear about something new in the way of skincare.
Vitamin C has a number of benefits for the skin, it helps to defend it against free radicals by minimizing the damage done underneath the skin by the sun’s harmful UV rays. It also helps in the reduction of dark spots, which is my favorite property since I have so many from old pimples! Since it helps the skin pretty much heal itself and has anti-inflammatory properties, it works wonders when it comes to evening your tone.
To put the icing on the cake, Vitamin C is one of the best anti-aging ingredients on the market. Not only does it increase the amount of collagen molecules that your body produces, but it enhances the quality of that collagen as well, which gives a healthy more youthful glow.
After having read all of this information I knew I had to get my hands on something with Vitamin C in it, stat! I saw a few good reviews of The Body Shop’s Vitamin C Collection, so decided to purchase their Vitamin C Glow Revealing Liquid Peel ($23). I literally ordered it the same day. The amazing thing about peel’s is that you get that instant gratification of seeing the tiny balls of dead skin literally fall off of your face before your eyes. I did two pumps of the gel peel and applied it to my dry face (sans makeup), gently rubbed it in and began to watch the magic happen. My dead skin began to remove itself and after washing revealed an extremely fresh appearance. My face was squeaky clean, felt instantly firmer and was literally glowing!
I wish I could use it every day, but the instructions say to apply only 2 – 3 times a week. Since I don’t want my face to literally peel off, I’m abiding by the rules, but I can’t get enough of this product. I’ve been shouting from the rooftop for folks to use Vitamin C now that I’ve seen the light. I plan on investing in the Body Shop’s Vitamin C Glow Booting Moisturizer ($30) next!
