[dropcap]L[/dropcap]ast week on Instagram I partnered with THINX to highlight Menstrual Hygiene Day and bring awareness to those who don’t have proper resources and access to menstrual products, as well as the ominous “pink-tax.” Not many know this, but about two years ago I had surgery to remove an endometrial polyp from my uterus. Prior to my surgery I had been bleeding for months, and even after my surgery I bled for a little while longer. It was so stressful, each and every day switching tampons and not to mention expensive. So I can only imagine how difficult it is for women around the world who have little to no access to proper menstrual products, with this being their life constantly. I applaud THINX for not only spreading awareness, but giving back to these communities by educating, empowering and granting access to these necessities.
Although I had taken some lovely photos in my THINX panties, I had not yet had the opportunity to try them. My period ended right before they arrived at my house, so I’ve been waiting to give them a test run and share a review with you all!
I would like to preface this review by saying that this period was possibly the heaviest flow I’ve had in a really long time. Lately my period has been pretty chill and I’ve gone from having to use Super+ tampons, every few hours, on the first few days, to just Super lasting me for at least 6 hours. I did not anticipate this to be a Super+ situation…
When I saw a drop of red I ran and grabbed my THINX! I decided to get the High-Waist Panties ($38), because I love the super chic style that I knew would make me feel sexy while on my period. And that they did. They were extremely comfortable and helped with holding in my bloated tummy. Although I did quite a bit of walking that day and was out and about, not once did they ride up or give me a wedgie — they remained perfectly in place. Throughout the course of the day as I used the restroom I would check to see how they were holding up and what surprised me was the fact that they really did absorb everything. Not going to lie, I swiped my finger across the crotch are and didn’t get any residue on it. I never once felt like I was sitting in a pool of blood. Needless to say, I was a believer and after a while forgot I was wearing them — or even on my period, which is good but ended up not being so great.
Around hour 8 of wearing them, my Super+ period broke through and sadly I ended up leaking onto my shorts. Fortunately, I realized this right before I was going to get ready for bed. With that said, I want to note that this was by no means the fault of THINX, I simply wore them way too long. The website says that their panties hold up to two regular tampons worth, and again — my period was on Niagara Falls this time around. Unlike a tampon or pad, which are objects either stuck in or underneath your vagina, I got so used to them that I didn’t think it was time for a change. After all, let’s be real I’m not changing my normal panties mid-day unless I’m about to take another shower or changing clothes all together. These panties were great, I was just not very mindful while wearing them, which I would say is a good thing. If they were super uncomfortable or started leaking early on, then it’d be a problem — but these bad boys held up for a really long time and through lots of blood.
I washed them and tried again another day during my period and they were perfect. Again, no discomfort and this time around I didn’t leak at all. Given THINX‘s dedication to empowering women around the world, and the sheer convenience of their products, I will absolutely be getting myself another pair — or two, or three. And if you would like to try it for yourself, or gift a loved one, feel free to use my code AISHA5 for $5-off at checkout. Enjoy!

Yes! Love period panties!! I switched to all reusable menstrual products a few months ago and it was the best decision I ever made! I don’t use Thinx, but I’ll have to give them a try!
Really?? I am definitely going to explore this some more — it was such a relief not to use a tampon for once.
And yes, give THINX a try — let me know how you like them! xAB
Sis, I ordered the menstrual cups and they were so uncomfortable. I hate pads and as I have gotten older tampons irritate me.
omg! I have been considering trying menstrual cups, they look like they’d be uncomfortable. I have to look into them more to get details on how they work, but I was going to try them out just to see. I’m ovveeerr tampons as well, and pads are a big no-no, so these panties are the next best thing.
