After signing up on their website, I was then prompted to complete a 5-minute personal consultation. This consultation entailed a series of questions regarding my age, hair texture, length, scalp health, hair goals and more. It even inquired about my location to determine what types of pollutants or other environmental factors could possibly be effecting my hair. You can also select the scent you’d like, which I loved — you know how it is when a product works wonders but doesn’t smell the best or is simply too fruity? Well, Prose makes it so the products you receive are exactly what you want and need. Once the consultation was over, my products shipped and arrived within 5 short days!
Currently, Prose offers a hair mask, shampoo and conditioner, because healthy hair really starts with handling the basics. The hair mask can be used two ways — as a primer before you shampoo (a “pre-poo” as we call it in the natural community), or as an overnight mask to deliver maximum results. So far I’ve used it mainly as a pre-poo, but in the future will definitely give it a spin one of these nights.
So how do I like the products for my hair? I love them! I’ve been using the brand for a few weeks now and my scalp issues are completely gone. No more tightness and excessive itching. My hair also feels much softer than it has in a while. The conditioner is also great for detangling, and keeps my curls nicely defined prior to styling.
For my specific hair needs, the products I received included ingredients such as Silk Protein (for cuticle nutrition), Argan, Sacha Yushi and Jojoba Oil (to help nourish), Polyquaternium-72 (for curl definition), Vegetal Oil (to help condition and improve texture), Porphyra Algae (for smoothing) and more. All of Prose’s products are completely free of sulfate, parabens, dye, mineral oils, GMOs — and are of course cruelty free.
Now for the nitty gritty. Prose’s products are pretty pricey, but for good reason. In order to get hair care that is completely customizable, made to order with high-end all natural ingredients, this is to be expected. The mask is $38, shampoo $25 and $27 for the conditioner, so in total you’re paying close to $90. What I will say is that a small amount of each product does go a long way, so if you wash your hair once a week like myself, you can definitely make them last for about 2 months or so.
I’m personally willing to make the splurge because as I mentioned before my scalp was really going through it, so I need products that truly get the job done. I’m so over skimping on my hair care routine, how else will I achieve the big curly ‘fro of my dreams?! Now all I need is for Prose to create some styling products. How amazing would it be to have customized gel and curling creams?
