Lately I have been getting a lot of compliments on my skin and how natural my makeup looks, which makes me so happy. I’ve of course gone through all the phases with my makeup like using a foundation that is several shades too light, going overboard on bronzer, using a brow pencil that is just too dark–you name it. So the fact that I’ve finally gotten my makeup routine down to something that truly suits me, and that I can do it in less than 5-minutes has really been a lovely accomplishment. Therefore, I feel it’s only right I share the specific products that are working for me. Here’s a fun gif tutorial on how I achieve my day-to-day makeup look, enjoy!
Primer
After washing my face and applying the necessary moisturizers and serums, I add on a layer of the Elcìe Pearl Radiance Primer ($38) to kick off my makeup routine. I have to admit, I often forget to add primer when I’m in a rush for work or to head out of the house (because I’m always late), but when I do have a moment this is my go-to as of late. It’s lightweight yet hydrating finish is the perfect base for my foundation.
Foundation
Ever since I decided to get a big girl foundation and go to the MAC store years ago I was given the Studio Fix Fluid in NC-50 ($28) by one of their makeup artists, I never looked back. I’ve experimented with other foundations from different brands, but none have given me the super natural, lightweight and true to color coverage that this one does. I have oily skin, but it balances it and gives me a nice dewy look. I also don’t use that much on a daily basis, one or maybe two pumps always seems to do the trick–so a bottle lasts forever.
Concealer
To this day I regret that I hadn’t found this product sooner in life–the Sephora Bright Future Gel Serum Concealer ($14) is the truth! I won’t go too into it, because I have a whole dedicated post on it here, but just know that it has saved my life. When I’m not wearing foundation and want to spot correct or just dab a little under the eye this is my go-to for that instant brightness. On a day-to-day when I am wearing a “full face” I like to put some under my eye in an elongated V-shape as well as around my lips to cover some discoloration.
Blush
Prior to getting the Cloud Paint by Glossier ($18) I hadn’t used a non-powder blush, so I was a little intimidated by it’s gel formula. Let’s just say a little bit of this product goes a long way. I personally love a very rosy cheek (when I’m not wearing a bold lip), so the deep pigmentation on this is perfect. I lightly dab it on in a circular motion using my ring finger.
Highlighter
Ya’ll know I love my highlighter. I received the Laura Geller Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator ($26) so long ago in my Birchbox and has become my favorite highlighter ever. This is the only powder product I use on my face on a regular basis because it has such a nice finish. It’s subtle, but once it hits the light — phew, it illuminates my face ever so nicely. I like to brush this on my upper cheek bone and around the outer part of my eyes.
Brows
No look is complete without a strong brow, which is why I always use the Glossier Boy Brow in Brown ($16). This is a product I use even when I don’t have on any makeup just to give my face that extra boost. I absolutely hate drawn on eyebrows, nothing about it appeals to me so I always opt for a brow brush instead of a pencil. It just looks so much more natural. Of those that I’ve tried, Boy Brow has to be my favorite. I like to brush my brows upward and then arch them slightly towards the end.
Mascara
The MAC Haute and Nasty Too Black Lash ($23) actually used to be one that I only used at night because of how much volume it gives my lashes. However, now that I rarely wear eye liner I like to use it during the day and night as it gives my lashes a very naturally defined look. Since this mascara is quite intense you have to be careful not to apply too much or it will clump.
Lips
It’s no secret that I have some pretty big lips. For that reason, I like to keep them extremely hydrated. I wrote a post a while back about my struggle this past winter with finding the right remedy for chapped lips, and how I eventually discovered it in Glossier‘s Balm Dot Com ($12). Well, I’m happy to say that I still swear by it — it’s literally the only balm out right now that keeps my lips super moisturized without peeling. Glossier recently collaborated with Milk Bar on a Birthday Balm Dot Com, which I’ve been using as of late. It has a subtle shimmer which is a nice primer to their clear Lip Gloss ($14). I wear the gloss almost everyday, with or without makeup! I honestly need Glossier to make the lip gloss in a bigger tube, I run out of it almost monthly!
Setting Spray
The Herbivore Rose Hibiscus Hydrating Face Mist ($32) is technically just to help tone and hydrate, but I like to use it as a setting spray as well to lock in that moisture before my skin faces the daily elements. A light spritz of this before I head out helps keep my makeup in place and adds to that dewy finish that I love.
There you have it, my go-to makeup routine. Be sure to tell me about your day-to-day beauty must-haves in the comment section below!
