Let’s face it the best part of any facial is the massage. Unlike the other areas of our body that are tended to, we often forget the muscles in our face. And believe it or not, they do play a role in the overall appearance of our skin. So it may be time we get to kneading and rolling to help uncover a more luminous glow!
Facial massages are beneficial in that they specifically target lymph nodes under the ears and on your neck. This increases the amount of lymphatic drainage to essentially rid the toxins that can cause the skin to look puffy and dull. Often times, our gateway to lymphatic draining is blocked, which slows down this process.
Aside from the effects it has on our lymph nodes, these massages assist in boosting blood flow and oxygen to stimulate our skin to produce more collagen, therefore minimizing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Now, we don’t all have the time, the coin, or the availability to see a facialist very often, which is understandable. The great thing about facial massages is that if you want–you can do them yourself! Whether with a specific tool like a Jade Roller, or simply using your hands, facial massages are extremely assessable.
Steps to Give Yourself a Facial Massage:
- Begin with clean, freshly washed skin.
- After cleansing, and patting your face dry, apply your favorite facial oil or a moisturizer to your hands and fingertips.
- Start at your chin, apply light pressure and motion your hands in an upward direction.
- As you massage upward, pay special attention to the area under your ears, and low on your chin towards your neck to smooth our those lymph nodes.
- Next, bring your fingers up your cheeks towards your forehead and then down the bridge of your, moving in a circular motion.
- And finally, motion upward from our eyebrows along your forehead
You can repeat this routine for 1 – 3 minutes a week! Here’s a great 2-minute video from the beloved Sir John to give you a visual:

I often preach about the importance of taking your skincare routine seriously, and that doesn’t mean solely the products you use. Skin wellness begins from within, and acts like drinking more water, getting more sleep, or simply weekly facial massages go a very long way. And can tackle some of our biggest issues.
