I don’t think I’ve mentioned this before but I am on an adult touch football league. I know, very shocking, but don’t judge a book by it’s cover! Anyhoo, a few weeks ago during one of our games it was an extremely hot, sunny day and I forgot my sunscreen. Fortunately, one of my amazing teammates had some for us all to use and since I don’t play about my sunscreen I slathered it all over from head to toe. About half-way through the second game, one of my male teammates made a joke “Hey Aisha, I got you after the game.” I was like, “What?” — he said, “I got you with the lotion!” I was mortified, he thought I was ashy!
You know that bluish, grey cast that sunscreen leaves on your skin? (Dark skinned men and women, I know you feel me) Well, that’s what happened. I was grey all over my arms and legs, which I was aware of but didn’t think anyone else could tell…
Recently, one of my favorite brands –I’m sure you’re tired of hearing me go on and on about, Glossier, launched a daily sunscreen, which had been in the making for two years! The Glossier daily sunscreen, known as the Invisible Shield ($35), is just that. A super light weight gel formula specifically for your face that protects your skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays without leaving a nasty grey cast!
As mentioned, I’m a strong advocate for sunscreen because although we women of color are blessed with a greater amount of melanin, that doesn’t mean we are immune to the effects of the sun’s harmful rays. With that said, regardless of it being summer you should be rocking some sort of facial sunscreen daily. Yes, DAILY. I’m not going to lie, I don’t always adhere to the daily rule and am trying to improve on that, but with the Invisible Shield now being available I have no excuse. With it’s light weight and functional formula, the Invisible Shield goes perfectly under makeup and won’t clog your pores or make your skin look more oily.
Not only does the Invisible Shield protect from UV rays it also protects from UVB rays, which means it creates a barrier around the skin to protect from pollutants in the air. It also has a ton of antioxidants to help fight cell-destroying free radicals inside your skin.
Because sunscreen does not replace moisturizer, I put the Invisible Shield on after my daily moisturizer and right before primer or foundation. You literally can’t even tell it’s there. It may be on the pricier end, but it is so worth it. Glossier strikes again, for the win!
